Avi and Noris started fishing in 1986; coincidentally that was the first year in which farm raised salmon was sold in main stream markets. Avi believed if people had the choice between farm raised or wild salmon they would choose wild every time.
Avi first brought salmon home as an experiment in 1990; people snapped it up. He designed and built a processing building that became operational in 1995.
We work hard every day during the 6 week fishing season to keep up with demand at home. We catch, clean, fillet, vacuum-pack and immediately flash freeze our products ensuring the highest quality.

Noris Friedman
Noris never gave the state of Alaska much thought. In 1986 when Avi asked her to come with him for his first fishing season she thought, “When will I ever get a chance to go to Alaska again?”…and the rest is history. Noris enjoys being the camp cook, keeping everyone going with their favorite baked goods and she never misses fishing a tide. Her favorite things include walking on the beach looking for agates and photographing the natural wonders.
Avi Friedman
Avi is living his dream fishing in Alaska working with his wife and daughter (even though driving his 1st generation Dodge Cummins diesel is a close second). He never sold a thing until he got the idea to build his own processing facility and bring home some of the salmon we catch to sell to friends and family. Since then, Friedman Family Fisheries has steadily grown and now has over 800 customers. Avi values the close relationships and friendships he has developed with his customers, many of whom have been buying fish for over 25 years.
Celia Friedman
Celia has been going to Alaska since she was 10 months old. Working outside with the rhythm of the tides grounds her. She loves taking a break from fast-paced modern life to re-center and re-focus on what matters most. Alaska is home and Celia’s favorite place in the world. It’s hard to capture the feeling of freedom and wonder felt up there; Celia enjoys documenting the exciting moments and adventures and has been making annual recap vlogs since 2019.
WHERE YOUR FISH COME FROM:
ABOUT BRISTOL BAY
Bristol Bay is a precious area which provides pristine habitat for the world’s greatest concentration of wild salmon. Commercial fishing began in the 1880’s; it now provides thousands of jobs for fishermen, crew and processors, and helps drive the economy of the state of Alaska.
The state of Alaska is known for its science-based management of Bristol Bay salmon, ensuring the sustainability of the resource. There are no fish farms or artificial enhancement efforts in the entire region.
There are five fishery management districts in Bristol Bay. We fish in the Nushagak District on Ekuk Beach, a small fishing village that people return to every summer to participate in the commercial fishery.
